A Note from the Director

When people think of Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X, they usually see two static statues or black-and-white photos from a history book. But Jeff Stetson’s The Meeting flips that script. It takes these two giants off their pedestals and puts them in a cramped Harlem hotel room to do something we still struggle to do today: really talk. In our current climate—where it feels like we’re constantly shouting over each other through screens and hashtags—this play is a reminder that the debate over how we achieve justice isn't just "history." It’s a living, breathing tension.

My goal isn't to stage a dry political debate, but to find the heartbeat beneath the rhetoric. No set, no fancy lights. I want you to focus on the story. I wanted us to see these men as fathers who worried about their daughters, as men who were tired but refused to quit, and as rivals who actually had a deep, unspoken respect for one another. Ultimately, I hope this show makes you a little uncomfortable in the best way possible. I don't want you to leave thinking, "Wow, those guys were great." I want you to leave asking yourself where you fit into this ongoing meeting. We still need Martin’s vision, and we still need Malcolm’s urgency. My hope is that by watching them find common ground in this room, you’ll find the spark to keep pushing for it out there in the real world.

Jarrol Taylor Jr as Martin Luther King Jr.

Jarrol Taylor Jr. received his
Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre in 1999 from Cal State University
Northridge, and has starred in productions of The Wiz, The Meeting,
Zooman and The Sign, The Application, New Kid on the Block and many other intimate and large venue productions. He has acted in short films such as "Persuasion" and "Tender Is The Night", as well as a full-length feature, "Feel Like Ghosts" which currently is available on Amazon Prime Videos. He is a member of the acting troupe Blessed Arts Theatre and tours locally in their summer stock productions.

Bryan Windom as Malcolm X

Hailing from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Bryan Windom is a seasoned vocalist whose musical foundation was built as a member of the East Baton Rouge Parish Boys Choir. His soulful richness and impressive range earned him early industry acclaim, resulting in a publishing and production deal with Warner Music Group by the age of 21. This pivotal achievement solidified his reputation as a standout talent with immense professional potential.

Now based in Dallas, Texas, Bryan has become a prominent figure in the DFW music scene. He has served as a powerful vocal lead for various church praise teams and has taken on the dual roles of band leader and musical director for a high-energy ensemble. Performing across Texas and neighboring states, Bryan continues to inspire audiences through his magnetic stage presence and a lifelong dedication to the transformative power of music.

Chiemeka Azubuine as Rashad

CHIEMEKA AZUBUINE is honored to play Rashad in this presentation. Recent credits include the developmental musical Chameleon (Dave Pretorius, Marilyn Monroe Theatre), and the indie films Bola at Buhay – Ball and Life (Best Ensemble Cast – Short, Indie Vegas Film Festival) and Late Bloom. Chiemeka trained at the Empowerhouse Acting Studio in Berkeley, CA and has a BA in Music from the Berklee College of Music in his hometown of Boston, MA.
